Update: What's Happening at NPE?
On Wednesday, November 19th, students will be practiccing for Snow Day lessons. If you have chosen for them to bring home their school iPad or laptop, those will be coming home. If you have not completed the survey, your child will not bring home a device from school. We want to make sure we are following your wishes. Please take the survey linked below or contact your child's homeroom teacher to make us aware of your preferences. There are also written instructions on how to get to the trial lessons in the Quick Links above and also in the Students tab.
On November 19th, students can bring $1.00 to buy a turkey for our school turkey being displayed in the lobby. The dollar will go to Riley Children's Hospital, and students will be encouraged to write what they are thankful for on the feathers. We can't wait to see hundreds of feathers on our turkey! Thanks to the NPE Student Council for leading this project!
Important Technology Survey!!
Parent, please take the surveys linked below regarding your preferences for your child and what device they will use for their Snow Day lessons. Please click on the name of your child's teacher. You will need to take a separate survey for each of your children.
Welcome Message from Mrs. Eastes
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your children to New Palestine Elementary for the 2014-2015 school year!
The staff at NPE is committed to high expectations for all students and to providing the best possible learning environment. It is our belief that we are partners in the education of your children. We will continue to work together as a team of students, parents, teachers, staff, and community as we encourage your children to grow in many ways. We want them to believe in themselves, achieve knowledge, gain social skills, and treat others with kindness. I expect our children to become well-rounded adults, contributing to our community as a result of their nurturing at New Palestine Elementary.
New Palestine Elementary has a strong tradition of parent involvement. I encourage you to find your niche at NPE. Whether it is volunteering in the Media Center, reading to the class, punching letters for bulletin boards, serving a few hours at our annual carnival, or a myriad of other opportunities, there is a place for you in our school.
Our newest excitement at NPE is our take home technology initiative! Between now and the new year, students will take their iPads or Macbooks home to participate in practice eLearning lessons. When inclement weather approaches, parents will be notified, and students will bring home their devices. Rather than scheduling snow make up days later in the year, students will continue their learning using their school device. So many wonderful advances are happening due to this project. Southern Hancock Schools are leading the charge in technology innovation, and our students will reap the benefits. Read more about this under the Quick Links above.
Another new initiative at NPE is the way we are integrating the new Indiana College and Career Readiness Standards into our school. Each teacher is presenting and posting "I can statements" in their classrooms. Students see and hear the new standards before they learn them in each subject. We know the new standardized assessments are more rigorous and we want to prepare our students as much as possible. Ask your child about the statements posted in their classroom.
We have had a productive, wonderful start to our school year. I absolutely love being the principal at NPE- where children come first!
